In the past, I guaranteed satisfaction with the plan document before payment. Why is this not a good idea?

Because now you are putting the review of the quality of your work in the hands of an amateur and adding a very big burden of time and responsibility for them to do something they are not qualified to do: review and approve your work as a professional. Be confident that your plan will be excellent because you are a professional. Remember, the next meeting is called the “Implementation Meeting” and NOT the plan presentation meeting. I appreciate that you are new to Values Based Financial Planning™, the transition you are going through from presenting plans to implementing plans and shortening the process for the benefit of your clients is normal. You’re going to love it… and more importantly so will your new clients.

b How can I increase my knowledge of, and mastery of, creating financial plans for clients? Do I need to pursue something like a CFP?
b If I give the Financial Road Map® to the client after the interview how do I update it if they become part of the Ideal Client Community?
b I have had a number of Financial Road Map® appointments recently where the person has indicated they have gone through significant planning recently and their perception is they have everything in place or at least have had their financial house looked at. I offered to complete the full Financial Road Map® and explained that the information he was giving me about recent planning was a little premature. I also explained that I was only offering the full Financial Road Map® at this stage and that something may or may not come of this and followed up by mentioning that, either way, the result was ok. I get the feeling they are not differentiating me from other financial planners, though. The Financial Road Map® Phone appointments are conducted with a calm way of being and with no expectation that the person will become a client. What could I say in this situation to show the prospective client we are different in our approach even though the Financial Road Map® is also very different?
b A number of my clients do not involve their spouse in the financial decision making to the point where the husband (typically) wants to be the only one present. While I recognize that this process is more about values than it is about finances, the husband refuses to let the wife attend because she isn't involved in that type of decision making. Should I insist that both spouses be there knowing that the husband won't 'open up' if the wife is there?
b I completed a Financial Road Map® with this gentleman and his wife. He loved the experience and was very excited to go ahead and have us create an action plan. We requested additional information needed to complete the plan. I then received this email (see below). How would you respond? Thanks. Morning, Michele and I had the opportunity to sit down with an investment adviser yesterday and discovered that Optimal Performance is not only an investment company but also a financial planning firm. Embarrassing for me, as we have worked with Diane for over five years and she has helped us manage a myriad of financial challenges over that time. To realize that I have not fully taken advantage of her years of experience her expertise was "uncomfortable" to say the least. That said, Michele and I have decided not to continue moving forward with Ideal Life and re-engage Diane since we are already paying for that service. Additional, I am sure you can appreciate that we do not want to put our relationship with Diane in jeopardy especially after she has been a cornerstone for us. I have reviewed our chequing account and as of Friday, our cheque has not been processed and we would ask that it does not happen. We are prepared to pay a small fee for the work to date (including the Value-Based book) and will issue another cheque to cover that amount. I can have that available when I come to pick up our binder. As you witnessed, we were ready to make the move to see the plan and realize this a disappointing news however this is the right thing for us and aligns with the values we hold true.
